glad midsommar!

Before I forget, we finally got a new set of sofas last week! I wanted to take a nice picture of them but it was virtually impossible to get one without the golden-haired Spiderman in the centre?

Today is midsummer’s eve, or midsommarafton as we say here. This is the day when the people of Sweden celebrate summer by eating pickled herring, ridiculously expensive new potatoes with dill, fresh strawberries with whipped cream, drink snaps and dance like frogs around a flowered pole.

Traditionally, that is.

We, however, chose to spend the day in a slightly different way: Along with my MIL and SIL with family, we all went to Furuvik which is a zoo/funpark about 10 km from here.

We watched animals

picknicked

looked cute

watched the rise of the midsummer pole

took really bad pictures of said pole

tried to get a nice shot of the lemurs

fed the goats

and rode carousels

Then we walked home (well, at least to the parking lot) in pouring rain. This may be the most stubborn tradition of them all – it always rains on midsummer’s eve. Always.

All in all, a quasi-traditional midsummer. No herring, no potatoes, no snaps, no frogs. But I can assure you that there were strawberries!
