is that so

- If you’re born poor, you’ll die poor. There’s just nothing to do about it.

Wow, I thought. I had not meant to eavesdrop but as we work side by side I couldn’t help but hear what she said to her client.

- I guess people like us just aren’t meant to be well off.

Wow, I thought again. That explains a lot. This is the same woman who keeps repeating “it’s just not fair”, something which I still haven’t managed to wrap my brain around. What does she mean by that, “life is not fair”? She says that it is terribly unfair that “good people” get sick. By “good people” she means people who sacrifice themselves and overlook their own needs to take care of others.

In my world, if there is an “unfair” there has to be a “fair”. What would be fair? Who deserves a terminal illness?

I’ve been pondering this for a year now and still hasn’t figured out how she is thinking.

What I conclude from all this, though, is that if this is how she looks at life it’s no wonder she can’t stand me (yes, six months now and she still gives me the evil eye, still hasn’t apologized and we’re still not talking) – because I am nothing like her. I refuse to give up. I refuse to think that I don’t deserve to have a good life with sufficient income and whatever else I might need just because I come from a poor family – it doesn’t come easy and it doesn’t come for free, but I can make it happen.

I am already making it happen, and I think it annoys her like mad.

What happens when someone worries?

Basically, they think of 100 reasons why something might go wrong. And all of those thoughts then struggle to become things, sometimes overriding their more constructive thoughts.

It’s like a train wreck. Ain’t pretty. But that’s the power of worry.

Now, let’s say you want something fantastic to manifest in your life, Annika. Hypothetically, let’s say you want a organic beauty salon. (I know you.)

Have you sat down yet and listed 100 reasons why it might come to you easily, fast, and harmoniously?

I think you should.
