Fall comes early in Sweden. Many years I would say that fall is our longest season, and although it can be absolutely dreary it can also be perfectly breathtakingly gorgeous.
What are the three signs that let us know that fall is here?
1. Colors change and fruits ripen. After a few weeks of summer the first leaves will turn yellow in August already. The air changes, and the blue skies somehow become bluer and higher.
2. The light changes. The sun, when it shows up, has a deep golden hue. Nights become dark again, and darkness falls earlier every day.
3. Summer vacations end. People get dressed and go back to school, back to work. Conversation topics change from summer houses, gardening and days on the beach, to wintery Thailand escapes, moose hunt and flu.
September and October blend bone-chilling days of drizzly grey with crisp, sunny color explosions.
A month later the colors are mostly gone. Bright orange and lucent yellow have turned murky brown.
The red has darkened to deep burgundy and frost renders a white brim to nature.
Fall is drawing to an end.
It is the beginning of November, and winter is almost here.
