Ciao - our children are both enrolled in college in California at UC Davis and at UC Santa Barbara. Both are dual citizens: USA and Italy.
The Davis student will graduate soon with a degree in Environmental Science. What educational opportunities are available to him as a post-graduate student in Italian? In science? He speaks science, not Italian, but is open to travel and opportunities.
The UCSB student is exploring study abroad programs through her school. She is Global studies with an Italian minor. Should we explore other options that may be less expensive than the UC study abroad program such as directly enroll ling into an Italian University? She is good at languages and will soon complete a year of Italian at UCSB.
What educational benefits are open to dual citizens? Grazie Mille!!! Corinne.

Any that are open to all other Italians similarly situated. Some graduate degree programs at Italian universities are taught in English.
Yes, but that would be true regardless of her citizenship status. The major hurdle is making sure her credits transfer back to the home institution. Study abroad programs generally handle that detail (or mostly handle it). She should check with UC about how they handle foreign university credits and make sure she has an agreed plan with the university.
The fact they also possess U.S. citizenship is immaterial for these purposes. In Europe they have the same educational opportunities as any Italian citizen residing outside the EU. Any programs, tuition discounts or waivers, admission policies, etc. apply equally. They can research the universities and their programs online. They would ignore the terms and conditions specific to "international students" and refer to the terms for "EU students" (with the caveat of EU residence requirements if any).
My dual-citizen son went to grad school at Imperial College and Cambridge Univ. in England. Fees were EU (and not USA) based.
Italy on a Shoestring Budget
Thank you for your responses. This gives us a lot to consider....maybe UK grad school would be the ticket for the Davis student.
I'm researching the UCSB study abroad question...their school in Florence / Firenze is listed as a UC school. Sure would like to pay the EU-rate instead of the UC rate, at least for one quarter.
Thanks again! Best, Corinne
