Happy Thanksgiving
November 23rd, 2006
I don’t get to have Thanksgiving dinner with any family today – so my line of thinking is this: Why mope around, homesick, wishing I were eating turkey, when I can instead simply hop into Helaine’s car and go with her to Rome to dance a little tango tonight? Tango it is…!!
What I am thankful for this year:
I am thankful for the fact that I live in the 21st century – with the internet and airplanes, achieving my Italian dream has been that much more attainable.
I am thankful for all of the friends I have made in Perugia, especially in the tango community.
I am thankful for my friends on expats who, perhaps unknowingly, serve as my salvation while I navigate my way through life in this confusing country.
I am thankful for my friends and family back home of course, whose moral support has been just what I need. Thank you!
I am thankful for the blue sky outside.
I am thankful for the delicious olive oil that I ate today.
I am thankful for the brutal realities of Italy – la vita here is not always dolce, and I feel fortunate that I have the capacity to recognize that and form my own opinions about it.
I am thankful for the coffee and piece of chocolate that my classmate treated me to today.
I am also thankful for this blogspace (thanks Cristina!) and for the people who read what I write, anche se non sono molto brava.
Those of you who are celebrating today, eat well, and have a piece of dark meat on my behalf.
